Willow Tree Marina to Kingston Upon Thames (6 nights)

Come and experience London from a completely different perspective. This journey along the Grand Union Canal and into the heart of the capital offers a striking blend of peaceful countryside, vibrant communities and unforgettable cityscapes.

We begin at Willow Tree Marina, a picturesque and tranquil spot surrounded by walking trails and green spaces. It’s the perfect place to stretch your legs before setting off toward the bustle of London.

From here, the canal winds its way through Uxbridge, a town steeped in canal heritage. This stretch is framed by the greenery of Denham Country Park and the scenic Fray’s River. Passing through the historic Cowley Lock, we enter a long, lock-free section of the Paddington Arm, where the countryside gradually gives way to the capital’s urban landscape.

As we continue, the waterway threads through lively neighbourhoods such as Southall and Alperton, where London’s cultural diversity is reflected in the communities that line the canal. Soon, the canalside trees and colourful narrowboats of Little Venice come into view. This enchanting pocket of London near Paddington is famous for its waterside cafés, floating homes and relaxed charm.

Here we pause at the London Canal Museum, a fascinating stop that tells the story of the UK’s canal network and its role in shaping the Industrial Revolution. With historic boats and unique exhibits on display, it’s a must for anyone interested in Britain’s waterways.

From Little Venice, your cruise then heads for the Limehouse Basin, a charming marina located in the heart of London’s East End. This vibrant area is full of character, with a mix of trendy restaurants, pubs and independent shops. There are also some great markets to explore, including the famous Brick Lane Market.

The morning sees us prepare for our cruise up the tidal Thames. The adrenaline will be flowing as our pilot takes us out of the Limehouse basin and up the Thames. You will be spoilt for choice on the number of famous sites like London Bridge and the Houses of Parliament that we cruise past on our way to Teddington Lock.

As the river softens beyond Teddington Lock, we enter a more tranquil stretch before reaching Kingston upon Thames.

We arrive in the charming town of Kingston upon Thames, where the boat gently moors for the final evening. With its rich history as an ancient market town, Kingston Upon Thames offers a delightful mix of riverside dining, boutique shops and historic architecture.

The next morning, after a hearty breakfast, guests bid farewell, carrying with them unforgettable memories of a journey that seamlessly weaves through London’s past and present, from tranquil canals to the mighty Thames.
